currently craving: the one that got away

It's been quite some time since my last "Currently Craving" post, but that isn't to say I haven't been craving! Quite the opposite, actually. And given that the Olympics are now in full swing, I wanted to highlight one of my new favorite London-town designers -- Roksanda Ilincic. You may have seen me practically salivate over her work here, here and most recently yesterday's post included a dress of hers, which you can see here. What you may not know is that back in April, while in LA for the Lucky FABB conference, I tried on a blouse of hers with the most beautiful lantern bell sleeves (seen here) -- but opted to pass on it. I've since then regretted letting it go and now, having spotted this hot pink number (on sale!) with the same swoon-worthy sleeves, I don't think I can let myself make the same mistake twice!

So I turn it over to you, dear readers -- what do you think I should do?

  12. I love it but it's still sooo expensive! The colour would be amazing on you but the fit on the model is a little loose round the middle... I'd say buy it, try it, then decide! don't regret it again!

  21. Wow, it better be pretty special for that amount of money! Having a mortgage to pay in San Francisco is splurge enough for me. How often would you really wear a fuchsia dress that is that distinctive? I'm all for spending major bucks on heels, I dress up for the office and wear them daily, but wow, that's what most people spend for a wedding dress.

  24. Well, I am not going to tell you what you should do because ultimately it's your decision. However, what I would do is think first and consider my options due to the fact that it's such a huge splurge. When I shop, I always try to compare prices. If I can get the same item at a lower price, then great. If not, I look for alternatives. If I can get a rendition of the same item at a lower price, it's so much easier on my wallet. But if money is not an option, then the decision is easy- go ahead and buy it. But before I make a purchase, I always try to justify why I need the item and how much use I would get out of it to get my money's worth. My mother always told me to think deep before you leap, lol...but regardless, it will look amazing on you if you do decide to buy it and we all would look forward to seeing it on your fabulous blog!

  25. The dress is incredibly stunning - I love the color and the details on that dress. It's memorable, and not one you can wear often, but it is certainly a head-turner.

I think if you love it enough, you should go for it. That dress can probably stand the test of season and time, given the right accessories and tailoring. My mom bought an incredible wardrobe in the 1990s from the major designers, and even though my dad had a fit when he saw the credit card bill, they've all stood the test of time. My sister and I tailored some of the pieces so they would fit our bodies (and removed all the terrible shoulder pads from that time!), and every time I wear it, I thank my mom for buying them! But, just to be fair, the colors she choose were more neutral, and we've been able to wear them on many occasions, and during the day as well.

    Hope this helps!

  28. Over $1,000 is considered ON SALE? How much money do you make!?

To a previous reader's comment, give the money to charity. That's insane that people spend that much on a single dress that they'll wear for one season.

  29. This would look amazing on you! Me, I'd end up dippin a sleeve into a bowl of soup within the first hour of wearing it.
