About once a year, the fashionable folk of San Francisco get absolutely spoiled with the opening of a standout clothing designer exhibit at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Past years have included exhibits from the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, with last year's pick going to Balenciaga, where yours truly actually interviewed both Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles (but that's another story for another day). While it may not warrant a Met Gala opening fĂȘte (although it really should!) -- I certainly look forward to it every year.
This year's exhibit? None other than Jean-Paul Gaultier. For those of you who had a chance to see the collection, I think you'll stand behind me when I say the curation and presentation was impecable and extremely vivid in the recounting of a talented designer's life, work and vision. Truly a transportive experience. Later that same day, I found myself describing the exhibit to my boyfriend -- who politely opted to skip this one -- as nothing short of theatrical and mesmerizing, fitting homage to the work of a true artist.
I've been a long time believer, as I'm sure many of you are as well, that fashion is very much a wearable art form -- one that so aptly captures and expresses the desires, beliefs and aspirations of a moment in time. With that in mind, I took a few cues from current fall trends and traced their lineage back to different art pieces -- complete with ideas as to how you can snag the look for yourself! Would love to know, what art-inspired trends are you loving lately? Let me know in the comments below!

THE First design is looking exactly like queens dress, most people prefers Modern dress, because the will be suited for them as well as they will feel comfortable. for a girl ear rings and shoes are important, and she likes most them, she will use only matching ear rings and shoes. it is nice to see these things. web design bangalore
ReplyDeleteAll three options are wonderful, but I find myself closest to the baroque one :)

ReplyDeleteI am a long time fan of M. Gautier - ever since I was about 12 years old and bought my first fashion mag - and when I finally went to Paris I must admit that my sole purpose was to see the impressionists' paintings and visit Gautier's store. I find his work enticing and enchanting. And agree with u, fashion is wearable art. Funny that you woud chose a Barbier illustration to pinpoint Art Deco, he is my fave illustrator of that time, I have a book with that same illustration, and others, and I go to it regularly in search of inspiration. Loved this post, Krystal!!!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this post. I would consider myself to not have one specific personal style and this seems to be proven as I could literally wear every look. The baroque boots are perfection.

I'm loving the art deco styles or more mod styles with clean lines. What fascinates me is how people mix the different styles to create something totally new!

Are these little sets you created on polyvore? I love it. Especially the art deco one. And how funny that you found a collar that totally vibes off of that baroque image. I must say though, that the baroque trend is probably going to be my favorite trend..and I don't think I've ever had one. Gosh you just gotta love those fabric details.
