reason #435671

Top: Nicholas (similar style here); Skirt: YSL (similar style here); Shoes: Henri Lepore Dezert; Bag: Saint Laurent; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Lips: Marc Jacobs "Oh Miley"

Reason #435671 I love black and white ensembles? It's just too damn easy to throw together when it's beyond sticky outside and you have a few evening engagements to head to. You may recall this crop top from my New Year's Eve outfit this past year (right this way) and this skirt from even further back (whoa, flashback to 2012!), and I'm honestly surprised it's taken me this long to pair the two together.

On a side note: I'm currently hopping around the east coast this week for work. First stop is Boston, which I'm afraid I don't have enough downtime to really go explore this time around, and the next stop is DC. If you have any recommendations for either city (restaurants! shops! museums!), I'd love to hear it! I'll likely be back a few times this summer, so your tips are greatly appreciated!

  1. i'm addicted to the crop top + midi skirt combo lately so i'm completely loving this look.

I'm from DC so I highly recommend any of the Smithsonian museums if you've never been (National Art Gallery has free tours) or walking around Georgetown waterfront for good drinks, views, & shopping. Hope you enjoy your visit!

  9. Georgetown is a wonderful place to walk and shop- Baked & Wired is just off of M Street and has crazy-good pastries, cake cups and coffee!
You have to take advantage of all that is free in DC- i.e. the fantastic museums and the National Mall. Another museum that isn't free but very interesting and interactive is the Spy Museum.

  11. I completely agree about pairing black and white pieces. It's what I have the most of and they always match. I love these two pieces together!

  19. I just cut my hair like yours, but I can NOT for the life of me get my waves to look like yours do! What do you use in your hair to get that style??

    1. Funny you mention this because when we shot these photos, I had just gotten my hair done for a photo shoot earlier in the day (so I can't take credit for my hair here). BUT I have been meaning to put together a video tutorial for a while now -- perhaps I need to get my butt into gear and post it soon? :) I generally use a 1" curling iron, a ton of hair spray and a lot of finger combing. And then I try to mess up my part so that some of the curls flop to the opposite side of my head (which makes it look like you have crazy volume). Hope this helps!

I love your hair too. Can you do a tutorial on how you do curls with shorter hair? Mine always look crazy.

  27. Rose's Luxury in DC! http://www.rosesluxury.com/

I live in Richmond, Virginia (which you have to visit sometime) just 1.5 - 2 hours south of DC. You love food, art and adventure...you'll love the Capital of the South! Only city with class four rapids running straight through the heart of the city. Also, soo many places to dine and a million murals to take great photos in front of. Come down in the fall and stay at Quirk Hotel (boutique art hotel) or the Jefferson Hotel (historic 5-star, 5 diamond Beaux Arts style hotel).
