the OTHER rodarte

Looking back through some of my past posts, I've noticed my photos have somewhat lacked in, well, umph. Pizzaz. Razzle dazzle. The "Ohh" factor. Whatever you call it, it's missing as of late. Take this blue door for instance. The color is great but I definitely seem to fall into this rut of snapping a few photos with the same poses and calling it good. Which leads me to wonder, how do the rest of you do it? Do you take along a friend? Trusty tripod? And how can I break this nasty habit of my three fall back poses?

Plus, this blue door is at an elementary school near my house. I'm just waiting for the day that I'm dressed, shall we say, rather scantily like the above outfit, and some teacher walks out with first graders. I'm such a role model, kids. All the cool kids wear mini dresses and take pictures of themselves.

Trust me.

Oh, and before I forget, this is the other Rodarte dress I managed to snag at Target. You all have undoubtedly seen the back of it (cute bow overload) so I decided to skip that part. Plus, I'm sure you all have heard that it was inspired by "Rosemary's Baby" so I won't bore you with that either. Actually, I have nothing profound to share in regards to this dress besides: here it is. And I love it.

Happy New Year everyone! Let's make sure 2010 is f-ing awesome!

Dress: Long sleeve leopard print lace mini dress, Rodarte for Target
Vest: Long black tuxedo vest, Urban Outfitters
Belt: Leather belt, vintage
Boots: Black suede over-the-knee boots

  1. Well I for one always love your pictures and find your backgrounds to be wonderful and interesting. I am relegated to staying indoors for the most part now and that can get quite boring. And I love your dress!

  2. I seriously considered that dress when I was scoping out the Rodarte collection. It looks stunning on you! It fits your style perfectly. I definitely use the same few poses over and over again too. For what its worth, though, you kind of rock those poses.

  4. I have never for one second thought 'Ho Hum' about anything you are doing here. I am always like 'wow, how does she look so freaking cool EVERY DAY!' seriously, don't be hard on yourself for a minute. Your backgrounds and poses offer like 300% more variety than mine do. The indoor, brooding ones you did with the leopard print jacket were probably some of my faves of all time.

  6. I do the exact same poses every day. I'm trying to get new poses, but I find it's really hard with the tripod. It's easier to get different poses when someone is doing my photos for me because I can be spontaneous and "real."

  7. My poses are far from great as are my photos(seriously, I use Photo Booth--boo!). But sometimes I turn on music and then feel a little more frisky. ;)

  10. This outfit is so fierce! You look like a big-time magazine editor on Jak & Jil.

I definitely feel the same way about poses-- I have a few flattering ones, but need to get more innovative. I like looking to other blogs for inspiration!

  19. Krystal, you look hott! (Yes, with two t's.) Love the whole look. And I feel you on the falling into the same pose pattern. I joke that I have a "signature" pose because it's always the one I seem to be doing without even thinking about it. Anyway, you look great and your poses work for you. I say do what you like, do what you know, and do what works! Whenever I talk about your blog I always say to people... "Yeah check it out, cuz she's a rockstar!" And you are. Just own it!
