flower power (for your shorts)

So as much as I would love to say I jumped on the one-piece-leotard bandwagon, when you have a long torso (and short legs) like I do, they're next to impossible to fit into without looking scrunched over. That's why I love this bustier-esque top--it tucks in nicely to shorts and skirts, fooling most into thinking it's a one piece of sorts. And the zipper was just the cherry on top, albeit a dangerous cherry if I ever walked around downtown Reno in it.

The shorts, yes they're shorts, are probably the comfiest shorts I own. Billowy and soft, what's not to love?

Work-ready? Probably not. But in a perfect world, I would wear this to work.

Top: Black, zip-up bustier top, Urban Outfitters
Shorts: Floral patterned billowy shorts, Urban Outfitters
Belt: Chained belt, Urban Outfitters
Jewelry: Gold, multi-layered necklace, Urban Outfitters (OK, OK, I know, I have a problem)
Shoes: White gladiator heels, Simply Vera

What I Wore presents...

Alright, I think I just might have to retire this dress. It's ego is getting too big for it's own good and now won't hang out with the rest of my clothes in the closet. But seriously, a huge thanks goes out to Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore for her gracious post featuring, well, moi! You can check it out here. Thanks again, Jessica!

reading between the lines

Little by little, I'm pushing the envelope as to what I wear to work. It's pretty casual in the first place, but it is a law firm after all, thereby disqualifying most of my summer wardrobe on the grounds of, well it's a law firm.

This little number, for the most part, I picked up in San Fran and absolutely love, love, love the loose feeling of this shirt. The high-waisted shorts automatically won in duel against my cut-off shorts (again, it's a law firm after all) and the boots, I thought, why the hell not? Who doesn't wear their black, lace-up ankle boots on a Monday?

Certainly, this girl does.

Now, wish me luck with the lawyers. I'm going to need it.

Shirt: Black and white striped t-shirt, Urban Outfitters
Shorts: High-waisted jean shorts, Express
Boots: Black, lace-up ankle boots, H&M
Jewelry: Gold, multi-layered charm necklace, Urban Outfitters
Shades: Gold aviators, H&M

it. is. late.

And I'm still buzzed from a five-hour trek from the Bay Area, complete with construction traffic, far too many pot holes and plenty of Michael Jackson tunes. I wish I had the energy to muster posting some of the trip photos but I all have in me right now is to show off this lovely recent purchase from ModCloth. It's short. Sweet. Slightly frilly with the cutest floral pattern. And at the risk of sounding all together too cliche in light of what has happened, yes, this is my PYT dress.

Good night ya'll.

some good ol' fashioned outfit catch up

I'm a lazy blogger, I know, I know. So here's a rundown of my weekend adventure outfits (adventures not pictured) almost in time for the next weekend. Ha. My procrastination amazes me sometimes.

le biker, le chic:

Pssstt...also, I have a secret to this hairstyle. Wanna know it? Well, do ya?

Shirt: Vintage Jason Motors t-shirt Vest: Vintage black leather vest
Shorts: DIY jean cut-offs
Shoes: Zigisoho cut out heels (love these!)
Jewelry: Gem embellished tie necklace and chunky black bracelet, both from the CR Shades: Black way-farers, Ray-Bans

party like it's 1989:

There's only one way to describe how I feel in this dress: sassy. Yes, sassy. Take it how you will, but with the shape of the slightly bubbled mini skirt and the big bow in front, it's hard not to walk around like an 80s power chick.

Dress: Floral, bubble shaped tube top dress, CR
Shoes: Black gladiator heels, Steve Madden

i love baubles:

Baubles and baubles and baubles and baubles...

Shirt: Black racer back tank, Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Multi-patterned full skirt, Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Vintage, tan kitten peep toe heels
Belt: Vintage cream colored belt

Ahem, now it's back to the work I was supposed to have started a little while ago. Stay tuned for this weekend's adventures (and outfits) because San Fran here I come. Should be crazy. Yes. Very crazy.

Yeah, that's right, I hang out with sailors

This is a story about a boy and a girl.

Meet the girl. She often does this, looking out windows and avoiding eye contact with cameras, giving an elusive yet hopefully intriguing appearance.

Girl spots boy. Meet the boy. He wears a yellow rain coat and some people call him "Captain."

"So uh, you come here often?"

"This seat isn't taken, is it?"
"So what's your sign?"

Girl loses interest, because let's face it, sailor clocks are never dependable (he's displayed the same wrong time for as long as she can remember) and he probably won't call anyway.
So instead, girl posts close-up shots of her outfit including her new go-to skirt with awesome brass buttons.

And she lived happily ever after.

The End.

  • Shirt: Navy blue ruffled tank, she doesn't remember where she got it
  • Skirt: Khaki, high-waisted front double buttoned skirt, BCBG
  • Shoes: Vintage, tan kitten peep toe heels
  • Jewelry: Vintage charm necklace

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand

and I'm not sure why I decided to title my post as such, but c'mon, I think we can all agree, it's an awesome lyric...

In other news, wow. What a day. Woke up a smidge early and realized that I had won the Weardrobe contest "Mellow Yellow" only to yell out "I won!" to the last person on earth that would ever know what I was talking about--my boyfriend in an early morning haze of sleep.  (Sorry about that, Ian).

Of course, a big thank you is in order to the Weardrobe team for picking yours truly and specifically to Weardrobe's wonderful Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore for being so supportive and enthusiastic about fashion and fashion blogging.  She's got a good sense about blogging, incredible style and some overall good life vibes. Seriously, go check out her blog. You'll view your closet a little differently.

Scram. Go. Git.

I won't feel bad that you're leaving my page. OK, maybe a little. (But I'll survive.)

And as if that wasn't enough, I was notified that I was featured on Weardrobe's tumblr blog. Seriously, guys. I'm sure my boss had his fair share of concerns after seeing my blush activity today. Thank you, again!

Now, as for the Anthropologie gift card...let the online shopping begin! Then maybe some sleep. Night ya'll.

blinding white

To all the fathers out there, happy Father's Day. I surprised my dad with, what else, a Beatles greatest hits two-disc album, 1963 through 1966. Nothing works wonders like a Beatles gift for your Dad, mark my words.

Followed that up with some intense shopping. Stopped by the recently opened Saks Fifth Avenue, Off Fifth, also known as Reno's attempt to feel closer to the East Coast. Picked up an awesome little party dress (and not in black, hooray!) and an equally awesome front buttoning skirt for work. More pictures to follow, promise.

This little number pictured here though, I've been dying to wear for quite some time now, ever since I spotted Chloe Sevigny at this year's Coachella wearing an all-white 1950s beach ready ensemble. It. Was. Perfect. Too bad I didn't recognize her when I saw her.

Shirt: Vintage white button up blouse
Pants: White, high-waisted Levis
Sweater: Light sea green cardigan, vintage
Shoes: Tan woven loafers, Urban Outfitters
Jewelry: Monocle charm necklace, Urban Outfitters; Coral colored bangles
Shakes: Tortoise shell way-farers
Accessory: Vintage maroon shade umbrella

1,2,3...jump!

Landing scores: 8, 8.5, 9, and a damn 6 from the Russian judge, better luck next time.

As promised, here are the infamous jumping photos, that in retrospect, have taught me quite a few things. A.) Do not jump in gladiator heels, I repeat, do not jump in gladiator heels. B.) Don't wear jewelry that could possibly whack you in the face mid-air. Because really, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye to a gem embellished tie necklace. C.) Don't jump too high unless you want explicit photos on your hands. D.) Think graceful thoughts. Somehow I think it might translate into a more graceful appearance for your hands and arms, which I clearly failed at.

Shirt: Lace cap sleeve blouse, vintage
Skirt: Lace skirt, my mom's closet

mellow yellow

Played some major dress up today, so major in fact, that I really didn't leave the house once. (Hermit, anyone?) But it really got me thinking, when was the last time I let myself do this? When I was six? Eight? Last week? Ha, perhaps I need to make this a habit. I rediscovered some great finds in the depths of my closet that I've reworked a bit for this week's Weardrobe contest, Mellow Yellow.  These are some of my submissions. Cross your fingers for me. mid-week pick-me up

Just needed a little boost in the ol' outfit creativity department today. Most mornings I wake up with barely enough time to tame my hair and budge both eyes fully open that my outfits go by the wayside. It always makes me wonder, perhaps it shouldn't be this hard. I mean, why can't I just roll out of bed looking glamorous, cigarette already in hand and a black dove in the other. With some killer eyeliner, too. Oh right, I forgot, that's not realistic.

On another note, a preview of what is to come: JUMPING photos. If you haven't already, you should check out the girls over at The Owls Are Not What They Seem. They have some lovely jumping photos (with great style to boot) and a unique take on this whole fashion blogging thang. Enjoy and I'll catch ya'll later. Is it 5 yet?
